The Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach to maths schoolwork
This two minute video outlines the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach to supporting primary school maths work.
The CPA approach was first suggested by psychologist Jerome Bruner and has now been incorporated into the maths curriculum as part of the Teaching for Mastery programme.
The CPA approach aims to use representations and manipulatives to support learning maths as it’s a particularly abstract subject.
