How do I become a childminder?

Childminding can be rewarding, inspiring and fun.

With the right organisation and support you can set yourself up to earn £37k+ a year while raising the next generation – what could be more valuable than that?

Earn a great income working from your home

Go it alone with Ofsted

You can register directly with Ofsted.

Ofsted will provide you with your registration for a small fee and inspect you when you first open. The big benefit is that the on-going cost is minimal but you’ll have to cover the upfront cost and navigate your registration yourself.

Many childminders find this too big a hurdle when starting out so choose to register with an agency who will support them and help them earn a bigger income.

Get a helping hand from an agency

Set yourself up for success.

Starting from scratch is daunting but a registered childminding agency will support you and cover the upfront costs to get registered. They’ll guide you step by step and set you up for success.

The agency will inspect you, support you to pass your inspection and help you find families to work with. Once you’re up and running they’ll manage your contracts, payments and ensure everything is correct with funded hours.

Plus you’ll get access to their community and app so everything is only a few clicks away.

They charge a percentage of your monthly income to join.

Small is beautiful

With just a few children you’ll build a warm and loving environment for children to flourish.

No day will look the same – visiting the ducks, playground or playgroups will make every day an adventure.

Earn £37,000—or maybe much more

If you keep your home nursery small, and include your own young child, you earn around £24,000—but saving on childcare. Without your own child, it’s typically £37,000.

Earnings vary with UK areas—these figures are for inner London.

A rewarding career

Childminders have never been in such demand. Families more than ever want their little ones to build a personal loving relationship in a home-from-home environment.

Giggles included

Childminders love the freedom of working in their own home—shaping the brains and lives of children with a different adventure every day.

No two days will be the same, but every single one will be filled with smiles.
