After School Childcare in UK Cities

Availability of after school childcare in the UK

Use our map to see what percentage of families have available after school care where you live.

Our latest research conducted in April 2024 lets you see what after school childcare is like where you live. What’s clear is that childcare is a post code lottery.

Across the UK only 70% of parents have access to after school childcare for their children.

It’s better news if you live in Oxford, Brighton or Plymouth where 80%+ parents say they have available after school childcare at their school. That still leaves 20%+ of parents stranded, stuck on the waiting list or with no provision at all.

The picture is worst in Glasgow, where with less than 50% of parents have available after school childcare, with Edinburgh having available places for 59% of children and Sheffield 63%.
