Nanny vs. After School club

Is an after school nanny right for you?

If you’re in need of some ‘easy days’ then an after school nanny could be just what your family needs.

Children can come home, focus on homework, eat a home cooked meal and have fun doing activities they love.

Nannies can typically stay later giving you more flexibility and avoiding a rush to pick-up.

You’ll pay one hourly rate for your family instead of per child.

What makes us different?

We offer a full service so you don’t need to patchwork different agencies together for your search, employment support and payroll.

Our nannies are from different backgrounds with a variety of experiences. You’ll find smart, energetic students, professional nannies as well as parents and grandparents who know what it’s like to work and raise small kids.

Koru Kids was built by busy parents so our platform is easy to use and means your nanny search can happen at times that suit you.

You might be wondering

We include all the costs associated with hiring a nanny in the hourly rate you see on the platform. This is the nanny’s pay, taxes, your employer taxes and pension. We also include our service fee in the hourly rate so there isn’t a big upfront cost like with other agencies.

The first time you hire a nanny with us there is also a £139 set-up fee.

It depends. Some nannies might have worked in an area for years but not live there. Others will live close-by. Many are happy to travel for the right family and job.

It varies. Some nannies will drive and have their own car. Some will have a driving licence so can be insured on your family car.

All of our nannies speak fluent English. For most, it’s their first language, but many speak other languages as well. Our nannies come from a range of backgrounds and you can see the languages they speak on their profiles.

Most nannies will want to work 9+ hours a week but some are looking for fewer hours.

We have a minimum contract size of 3 hours but between 3-9 hours we charge an extra £1 an hour to make sure the costs of finding your nanny are covered with less hours worked.

As you will be the legal employer of your nanny, the contract exists between you and them. Koru Kids will write the contract for you so you don’t need to worry. When we set up your contract, we will ask you to complete our set-up form which will ask for some preferences. We’ll then send out a draft version of your contract for you to review.
Our standard nanny contracts have a 2 week probation period with 24 hours notice. After the probation period, the notice period is 2 weeks. If you do need to bring the contract to an end, you simply need to provide your nanny with the agreed notice period. We’ll be there to support you with all the next steps to ensure your contract is finalised.

You may be able to pay using childcare vouchers or tax-free childcare, provided your nanny is Ofsted registered. Some nannies will have an existing registration and others will need to register. We can provide you with all the information to do this. It usually costs about £500 as your nanny will need to attend certain training on-top of the registration fee.

Many nannies will have Enhanced DBS checks and First Aid certificates that are still valid. If they have expired we’ll run a new DBS and book them onto an in-person First Aid course before they start.

Our standard contracts are term-time only but if your nanny is available they can work during the holidays and you can log their shifts in the app as usual.

If your nanny isn’t available we can set up a holiday contract with a different nanny.
