What does my income depend on?

How much you earn depends on the number of children you take on, which depends on your space and whether you need to look after your own toddler at the same time. Having older children doesn't affect your earnings.

Your earnings also depends on the area you live and the rates parents are willing to pay there. The figures we show below are for London Zones 1-3.

How many children am I allowed as a childminder?

Ofsted ratios allow you to look after three children under the age of 5, one of which can be under the age of 1. If you have your own child under 5 we'd recommend that you look after another two under 5's to keep your earnings around £25,000.

By working with an assistant to look after 6 younger children full-time you could expect to earn up to £70,000 after fees and costs. We guide you every step of the way, if this is what you want to do.

Benefits of having a childminding assistant

Working with an assistant means you can look after an additional 3 children, if you have the space. This allows you to earn up to £70,000 in inner London, after our fees and their pay. Finding and vetting an assistant can be a hassle, but Koru Kids has a network of DBS-checked nannies we can introduce you to.

We will even help them get set up as self-employed, saving you the headache of being a legal employer. You interview them—and manage them day-to-day—so you're still in the driving seat.

Paid holiday, because rest is important.

With Koru Kids we make sure your contract with parents entitles you to 4 weeks paid holiday a year - plus bank holidays. To be at your best for the children, we think it's super important that you get your rest (without worrying about your bank balance).

What would I charge parents?

In inner London, we suggest an all-inclusive hourly rate of £7.90 an hour, per child.

This reflects the quality of our training and the extra 'sheen' being part of the Koru Kids brand gives you. As we are well known and loved already you won't have any trouble filling your spaces.

In some areas we may suggest a higher or lower hourly rate depending on the local market.
