A note on process: Koru Kids’ recruitment processes can be a little different from the norm. We like to work very efficiently, and we expect you do too, so we use technology and scalable processes in our recruiting wherever we can to save everyone time. It’s also really important to us to find the very best people we possibly can for our team, regardless of their background, and to be transparent. These are important values to us, and that’s why we have designed the process the way we have. You should check out the details of the process for the role you’re interested in, but as a general rule we do not ask for CVs or cover letters upfront. Instead, we ask some simple screening questions which are separated from your name and double-marked blind, in order to reduce potential unconscious bias. Look out for the questions as the first step of the application. Of course, later on in the process we’ll be delighted to get to know you and your life story—just not usually upfront. (For more context on this, and why we do things this way, check out this Twitter thread.)

Koru Kids is building the world’s best childcare service, starting in London. We’re making it easier and more affordable for families to access high quality childcare. We’re growing like crazy, are backed by fantastic investors, including top venture capitalists and business angels such as Michael Pennington the founder of Gumtree, and have won a ton of awards for our technology, people and social impact. We’re proud of our Koru Ethos – at the centre of the childcare we’re building – and our team culture.

We have an amazing team with backgrounds including Expedia, Hotels.com, Net-A-Porter, GoCardless, BSkyB, Oxford, Cambridge, McKinsey, BCG and some of London’s top startups.

Our culture is informal, hard-working and kind. We’re all passionate about our mission and are determined to create a truly fantastic childcare service to help working parents. The team is friendly and we work at a fast pace – we are constantly challenging, testing and adapting the way we do things. We’re also really committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing and building a company we are truly proud of.

We take great care with who we hire and all team members are talented and lovely people. If you’re brilliant AND humble, you’ll fit right in.

Working at Koru Kids

We can’t fully capture what working at Koru Kids feels like, but here’s our best attempt to give you a sense….  Every new starter in the Koru Kids team meets with our founder and CEO Rachel in their first week, to talk about our company values and what they really mean in practice. We recorded one of these sessions, and here it is. In this recording, Rachel meets with Adam, a software developer on Day 5 of his job with Koru Kids.  She outlines our commitments to transparency, quick decisions, humility, continuous personal growth, recognising that we are humans and not robots, respecting each others’ time, and our no dickheads policy.

How might I develop personally at Koru Kids?

In this recording, Rachel outlines the 7 different ways we help each and every team member to develop faster at Koru Kids than they would anywhere else on earth.

A series of conversations with the top team at Koru Kids

We want to give candidates a really good sense of who is in the Koru Kids team, and how we work together. So we have recorded a series of short conversations between CEO and founder Rachel and a few members of the team. Totally unedited… with gaffes and swearing left lovingly intact…

HEAD OF MARKETING, REBECCA, AND MARKETING MANAGER KELLIE

“I was so drawn by the complexity of the problem and I was immediately drawn into solving it… It’s the best team I’ve ever worked on and I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot really”

Kellie and Rebecca, both in our marketing team, talk about Koru Kids culture, mission and vision, and what it feels like to work here.

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, AN NGUYEN

“It’s such a hard problem and being able to tackle that is really fun”

Koru Kids COO An Nguyen talks about why he joined Koru Kids, what he’s looking for in a hire, and why we hire in a weird way at Koru Kids.

HEAD OF ENGINEERING, MICHAEL BAIRD

In this recording, Michael talks to Rachel about why he joined Koru Kids, what kind of team he’s building, the technical problems we’re working on, and what kind of engineer will flourish at Koru Kids.

How we do feedback at Koru Kids
