Here are the steps you need to take to become a Koru Kids after school nanny. The whole process can take as little as 2 days, if you're quick to respond.
Apply Online [5 minutes]
Complete our short online application form.
This is where you let us know the basics:
- Contact details
- Childcare and employment experience
Phone Interview [10 minutes]
We'll then give you the opportunity to book a short phone interview, or we'll give you a call the next working day.
This is more of a chat than a formal interview. It's our chance to get to know you, and to answer any questions you may have. No need to prepare anything!
Online Course [1.5 hours]
You'll get to do our online training course, which takes you through a series of questions and scenarios to get you prepared for your role as an after school nanny.
It's also where you can tell us more about you, which we will share with potential families.
Boot Camp [1.5 hours]
After you've done your online course, you get to attend our interactive Boot Camp. You'll meet other nannies and find out everything you need to know to succeed as an after school nanny, including fun ideas of things to do with the kids, safeguarding advice and how Koru Kids supports you throughout your journey with us.
These happen in our offices near Old Street station and we have sessions running most weekdays and weekends, including evenings. If you're lucky, you'll also get to meet our office dog Luis!
References & Preferences Form [10 minutes]
We need to speak to a couple of people who can provide a reference for you. One of these must be someone who has seen you around children. If you're unsure about who you can have as a reference, we're always happy to help with suggestions.
We also want to find out what kind of family will suit you. You can tell us things like the age and number of children that you want to work with, or how far you're willing to travel. We'll use this information later to try and find the perfect family for you.
Find a Family
Once you've completed all of the above steps, we can start looking for a great local family for you to work with!
We'll send you details of potential families and you can tell us which ones work for you. You'll get to meet them first and always have the final say on who you would like to work with.
Before you Start Work
Once you're hired by a family we cover the cost of an enhanced DBS check for you, as well as providing free paediatric First Aid training.
We also set up a contract between you and the family, as well as handling payroll and providing any ongoing support needed.
You might be wondering…
How many hours will I be working?
You'll need to be available for at least 3 afternoons a week during term time, and at least 3 hours on those days (from 3pm). Most of our nannies work part-time between 9-15 hours per week.
How much will I earn?
You'll get £9 per hour and we'll help you find extra hours during the holidays if you're available.
Where will I be working?
We'll look for local families who live less than 30 minutes from your home. We'll send you details of the families before we introduce you to make sure the logistics work for you.
How long does it take to start working?
Sorry, there is no simple answer to this. It depends how quickly you complete the application process and attend Boot Camp. We'll send you families within a few days and if you respond quickly this will help to speed up the process.
However, the quicker you attend Boot Camp the quicker we can start looking for families for you. We have hundreds of new families registering each week.
What will I be expected to do?
Usually, you'll pick up the kids from school, help them with their homework, prepare a simple meal and keep them entertained with games or arts and crafts until their parents get home.
Is there an age limit?
Not at all! We're always on the lookout for older adults who love kids and are looking for part-time work. We find that older workers are very popular with families as they often make extremely reliable, dedicated and caring nannies.
We'll support you every step of the way
We're always here for you. From providing you with the training you need to be an awesome nanny, to being on the end of the phone when you need to chat.
Or you can give us a call on 0208 050 5678.
