Kids’ Christmas wish lists are renowned for giving parents cold sweats and last minute panic (real unicorns anyone?). If you’re looking for unique gift ideas that they’ll love and remember beyond the initial excitement of the day, you’ve come to the right place. We asked parents for some of their favourite Christmas gifts for kids that won’t end up shoved in the storage cupboard by January.
Christmas Gifts for Kids: for eco warriors
Adopt an animal from WWF
If your child is dolphin or polar bear obsessed, “adopting” one from WWF makes a great Christmas gift. Kids receive regular updates from their animal, a cuddly toy and learn all about the importance of protecting their precious habitats.
Clothing from the Kind Folks Club
If you’re looking to shop at small businesses this Christmas, Ezinma (@whatmummyloves) recommends kids clothing from the Kind Folks Club. The environmentally conscious brand uses eco-friendly and reusable packaging and all clothing is made to order.
Christmas Gifts for Kids: for creative kids
Hobbycraft Colour-In Cardboard Playhouse
We all know the cardboard box gets played with before the toys…so why not buy them just that. A great addition to any bedroom, this colour-in playhouse is the perfect gift for creative kids. Once it’s been turned into a work of art it’s the perfect hideaway for little people…or exhausted grown ups!
Personalised Book
Wonderbly has a brilliant range of books for all ages (grown ups included!) that can be personalised with your child’s name and even a character that looks like them.
Christmas Gifts for Kids: for music lovers
Toniebox
If you’re buying for kids who love listening to stories or music, Vicky (@curls.of.steel) recommends the Toniebox, an audio system just for kids. Kids can collect the hand painted ‘Tonies’ available in characters ranging from the Gruffalo to Peppa Pig. When plugged into the Toniebox, the ‘Tonies’ tell stories, play songs and can even make white noise for sleep. For a more personalised touch, Vicky recommends having family members record their favourite stories on blank characters.
Amazon Echo Dot Kids
Pamela’s (@latteandlullabies) kids love asking Alexa to play music or read stories from their Amazon Echo Dot Kids. It doesn’t just look cute but also comes with parental controls which filters inappropriate content, so gives great peace of mind.
Christmas Gifts for Kids: the gifts that keep on giving
Annual Membership to an Attraction or Museum
Allex (@wanderingmamastreets) loves when her kids receive a membership to an attraction for Christmas as it’s “much more meaningful and the gift that keeps on giving throughout the year”. If you’re local to Bristol like Allex, she recommends an annual pass to the science museum ‘We The Curious’, as both an entertaining and educational trip for the kids.
Family experience days
This year, with three kids in tow and her pre Christmas panic rising – Lorna (@mrshhayward) is exploring other ways for them all to find a little joy in gifts. One of her favourites, particularly for her older girls, is an ‘experience’ to enjoy as a family. She’s created vouchers that enable the girls to have a ‘kid day’ where it’s their rules (within reason) and they spend family time together rather than focusing on unwrapping something tangible in that moment. For her eldest, Elsie who’s 8, she’s created a postcard which says ‘this voucher entitles you to a mini manicure, chocolate brownie and ice cream with mummy’. Lorna says “it’s a great way to carve out time together and avoid the endless wrapping and presents that really, they don’t need!”
Kids Tea Subscription from Small & Wild
Ezinma (@whatmummyloves) recommends getting a subscription from Small and Wild for any tea-obsessed kids. Their specialty fruit and herbal blends are made especially for kids and are completely caffeine free (so no sudden evening energy rush!).
Whether you’ve got an eco warrior, a creative genius or a music lover we hope you’ve found the perfect gift. Now you can put your feet up and enjoy the festive season. Looking for a Christmas gift for your nanny? Check out our post with great gift ideas for them.
